We work on learning aids in a variety or subjects, to different audiences, and in multiple forms.
In all cases, the principles are the same:
Learning should be engaging. You know what you want to learn and why - what you don't need is death in the afternoon.
Learning should be self-paced. Decide when you want to complete what, and pace yourself accordingly.
Learning should be non-linear. It's not Rigor versus Speed. It's Rigor and Speed. Address the fundamentals when it's convenient to you. And ask a question when you need to.
Learning should be measurable. Whether by the trainer, by your peers, or by yourself, an estimate of your progress helps.
